Read THIS blog post by a teacher. I mean actually read it. Take it in. Think about it. And then, write about it. What do you think about it? What is the teacher trying to say? In your own words explain what "the main event" is.

The teacher is trying to tell us to try. That the point of school isn't to learn, but to face the hardships it comes with. The teacher's point is to tell the reader that the main event of school is to prepare us for life. He makes a really good point by telling us this because it is true. We use what we learn is school, so the actual work and the lessons too. Take an essay for example, obviously you learned writing skills, but if you had to do the entire thing in one night. It might resulting in no sleep and a  bad grade because you couldn't put your best work in.

3 day weekend... how was it? Give me a good story or something funny that happened this weekend. Go.

This Friday I didn't do that much; all I did was hang out with my friend and watch movies. Then on Saturday I did homework most of the time then went to Zio's, an Italian restaurant, to break to fast. When I say fast I mean for passover. I probably ate an entire loaf of bread with my pasta. That night I stared to watch Beverly Hills Cop, but I fell asleep half way through. In the morning I woke up my dad and he fell back asleep so I just finished my movie. Since my dad wouldn't make me breakfast I drove myself to my friend Sydnei's house and ate pancakes over there then came back home. The rest of the day was just me, some movies, and a lot of homework. Then next day My friend Kate came over and we worked on our french project. Then at 4 I drve myself to BVW for my soccer game.

Do you agree or disagree with this statement. Elaborate on why you agree of disagree.

If images are on the internet, they should be "free game".

I disagree and agree with this statement in different ways. One way side says, just because you put something on the internet it is any ones to use. This is true, but you you have to site your sources or else it's plagiarism. The other side is that you shouldn't put something on the internet unless you want people to see it. People can also use it. So, it is "free game" because anybody can use it as long it has been given it's sources.

I thought my resume website looked very professional.  As for the content in it, not so much. I completed the ask honestly. I don't think I would put that content in a website where a hiring professional or someone at a college would look at. I think I have learned multiple skills from creating this website such as format, other tags within HTML/CSS, and also a little bit about photoshop. For the future, I would like to learn more formats in coding and also a lot more about photoshop. I liked my website, but I thought it may have been a little plain. Next time, I would  added more pictures and more color to mine like other websites.

What's the coolest thing you've learned in Web Design so far? Why is it so cool and how can it help you in the future?

The coolest thing I have learned in web design is learning how to format. What I mean by that is all the tags like: <img src>, <li>, <ul>, etc. I can use the skill of knowing these to create future websites. In the future I will probably make a resume website, because that would come in handy when finding a job, for college, and people trying to find background information about me.

Define 'User Experience'. What does it mean and how does it relate to web design? Explain yourself.

User Experience is the process of creating more satisfaction from the user. In a websites case, it means a pretty, clean website that appeals to the users eyes. This means colors that are coherent and match what their purpose is. It also means it's easy to use and easy to find what there looking for. It addresses all aspects of a product or service as perceived by users.

What is a resume website? What do people put on resume websites. Spend about 5-10 minutes looking up resume websites and what they are used for. Explain what you find. Include an image of a resume website if possible.

A resume website is a personal website telling about themselves and their qualifications. It has been shown that 56% of the people hiring are more impressed by job seeker with a resume website. These are good because they get to show the employer more your personality threw the designing and construction. Typically, it has: the name of the person as the largest point on the screen, multiple ways to contact them, paragraph about them, what jobs they've had, specific skills.

Who do you look up to in your life? Why do you look up to them? Tell me about them and some of their characteristics that you admire.

The person I admire most in my life is probably Jason Sudeikis. He was  on one of my favorite shows, Saturday Night Live, along with many other funny movies. I look up to him because he is such a funny person but isn't mean. What I mean by that is he doesn't have to make fun of someone to be funny. Like most celebrities, when he wins money in a game show, he donates it. But he doesn't just donate it to anywhere he gives the majority to Children Mercy of Kansas City. He gives it somewhere close to home (he's from Kansas City).

Tell me about your weekend.

On Friday I went to Relay for Life. While I was there I exercised the act of sleep deprivation. I stayed all twelve hours and played volleyball, walked, ad ate a lot of food. It was really fun and I got to see a lot of my friends from other schools. When I got home at 7:00 I went to sleep then woke back up at 9:50 to go to the soccer meeting. This meeting was 2 hours long and I almost fell asleep listen to Snell talk five times. When I finally came home I fell a sleep till 5 then woke up for a shower before I went to a dinner and party with my friends. On Sunday I went t lunch with my family and the slept the whole day.

If you were the Principal for a week at BVHS, what would that look like? What changes would you make? Why?

If I was the principle at BVHS for one week my first change would to have no homework. The reason behind it is to create a less stressful environment. I would also make those week of classes fun days. So instead of having boring classes like we normally do, I would have all grade games of capture the flag. We would do that for one day then I would send all f them home so they can have fun by themselves with wifi.

Tell me about your weekend.

This Friday I had to go to my friends house for interviews. Interviews were for my bbyo chapter to see if the boys want me in their chapter. They asked me a bunch of funny questions. I finally got home at 11:30, then stayed in my sisters room till my birthday at midnight. On Saturday, I had a donut with 15 candles in it. Then I had to go to Winsteads for a milkshake and worked on committee for my youth group. That night I thought I was going to dinner , but then my friends surprised me at CPK. On Sunday I had to work at the carnival then went to Noodles with my friends the night.

Tell me about your weekend. Give me a story, something funny that happened, an experiencing you had, the way you felt, etc. Include photos!

On Friday my sister, mom, and I took a plane down to Palm Beach, Florida.  While we were down there we met up with some of my uncles old friends.  That night we all went to a really good cuban restaurant. I had beens on rice and a traditional chicken dish.  We stayed there till 11:00 just talking and joking around.  On Saturday we saw my uncle at the morgue then went to Starbucks for coffee.  Later we met up with his ex-girlfriend for lunch. It was italian food so it pleased everyone.  Then we headed to the beach for his memorial service. This is where I saw my cousin for the first time in seven years. That night we when to get bar food for dinner. On Sunday we had more cuban food for breakfast. then we headed to my uncle's ex-girlfriend's house to clean out his stuff. It was a full day job. We had to get up at 4:00 to catch our flight. We had to make a connection in Chicago but then we got home.

Some of the classes we take in school are useless. When in life am I going to need to know how to find the orthocenter of a triangle. Its skills like that that annoy me because you only will need to know that for a few jobs. If I'm not interested in a job where I'll need that skill, then this is just wasted time. They should have classes that teach survival skills if you're ever put in a bad situation. Another possible class teaches sign language. With the survival class you can take field trips, and learn first aid. And for sign language you can learn with actual people that rely on it.

Color can convey a lot of emotion when it comes to designing anything from a product to a website to an advertisement to a logo and so much more. What do you think the importance of colors on a website are? What is a color scheme and why is it important to have when designing? Explain any thoughts you might have around color in design.

When creating a website you have to consider the colors you use in mind.  If were making a website to support the environment, it would be smart to use shades of greens and browns.  Green represents earth and restfulness, while brown represents the outdoors and longevity.  Another thing you should keep in mind, when you walk outside, you see brown dirt and the bark on trees; green can be found on leaves and plants.

January 10, 2015

Think about the quote above. What does this mean to you? How could this apply to your life? How could this apply to your school work (especially Web Design!)? I would love to give you less work in class if it meant you were going to focus harder on the work. Do you think you would get more out of it? Would that work for you? Why or why not?

In my mind this quote means you can do the things you want to do with more focus. When it says less it might not necessarily mean doing less things in regards to quantity.  It could mean the things you want to do.  If you skip work because you want to go skydiving, you are doing less than you should be. You should be doing you work getting a lot done, but if you go you and do what you want  that is doing less. By prioritizing the things you want to do, you can do them.  Yes if my teacher doesn't give us a lot of code academy will focus more.

Tell me all about your weekend! I sure hope you have photos to share.

This Saturday I was going to go on a run, but I decided I could be more productive with my time.  Instead I watched Grey's Anatomy. Then at 3:00 my mom, sister, and I went to the Plaza.  On the way we took a quick pit stop at Jasper's, which is a very good pizza shop. I ate the tomato and artichoke pizza.  Then at the Plaza we went into Urban Outfitters to get m birthday gift.

On Sunday I went to volunteer work at the JCC, but toward the end of it there wasn't much more I could do so me and some other people wen to the gym and played basketball there.  After that, my friend Robin and went o the Panera in Town Center and walked around.  While we were there we met up with our other friends Kayle and Allie. Me, Robin, and Allie got best friend phone cases.Robin had a soccer game so the rest of us went back to the JCC for our BBYO chapter meeting.

What's the coolest thing you've learned in this class so far this year? Now that you have a little knowledge, what do you want to learn that you don't know how to do yet?

The coolest thing that I have learned his year is the CSS. I like how you can change the entire format of your website with just a few words. I would like to learn more in depth about the CSS.  Also learn more formats as possible.

Tell me all about your Sweetheart weekend (even if you sat at home on the couch!). Include photos!

On Friday night I had a BBYO program with the eighth graders. We drove around OP and played games during the scavenger hunt.

This weekend I didn't go to sweetheart. None of my friends wanted to go so we went to Buffalo Wild Wings instead. We got there and it was a twenty minute wait, so when we  finally got seated they said we had to leave in twenty minutes. They basically kicked us out. We got our food to go and ate back at my place. All of us were ticked off to we called them and complained. We watched a movie and played games and that was that night. On Sunday I litterally just slept, ate popcorn, and watched Greys Anatomy.

What is a website wireframe? Explain. If you don't know what it is, look it up. Find an image online to place on your blog that represents a website wireframe and how they work.

The wireframe depicts the page layout or arrangement of the website’s content, including interface elements and navigational systems, and how they work together.[2]:131 The wireframe usually lacks typographic style, color, or graphics, since the main focus lies in functionality, behavior, and priority of content.[1]:167 In other words, it focuses on what a screen does, not what it looks like.[1]:168 Wireframes can be pencil drawings or sketches on a whiteboard, or they can be produced by means of a broad array of free or commercial software applications. Wireframes are generally created by business analysts, user experience designers, developers, visual designers and other roles with expertise in interaction design, information architecture and user research.

A website wireframe is basically the blueprint to a web page. They are made to arrange the parts of a website to be most efficient for your purpose. The wireframe is the skeleton to the website; it doesn't show any of the color, graphics, or any extra styles.  It can also have all of the names of the parts of the website. Examples to create a box it might say the that the div class is <div class="box">.

Finish this sentence "10 years from now I will be...."

25 years old probably having a good time with my friends going to clubs in a city. Just kidding I will probably be back home with my 3 cats watching reruns of SVU. I probably won't want a complicated life I'll live a simple one. Because that's what's important.

Tell me about your weekend. Go.

On Friday night I had a soccer game, got home, drank a ginger ale, then went to bed. But that night there was a lot of drama and I was the buffer, so I had the pleasure of receiving phone calls till 1:00 am. On Saturday morning at 10:00, I went out driving to Olathe with Molly Harrigan and Mr. Biord, my drivers ed teacher. Later that day was oncer again filled with phone calls from my friends then babysitting. Then on sunday morning I was woken up at 6 to go to IHOP (not the international house of prayer). The rest of the day was full of me doing homework then I had a soccer game at 7, which we won.

If I were to complain about kids these days it would probably be about their reliance on technology. I thought my generation was bad, but they're so far past the line they can't find their way back. Everybody is fat and has NO social skills. What used to be sports out on a field or court with a ball is now replaced with a game controller. First off, all the people are wicked neurotic and way too honest; they really can't control themselves.

What do you find the most confusing and frustrating part of web design and HTML code so far? What would make it easier? What don't you understand? What do you understand? Explain yourself.

One thing that I can't stand about HTML code is that if you accidentally add one extra space or character, then it can screw up the entire code. It's also really frustrating how it takes forever to write one paragraph. I don't understand how it works to make websites.  How can just a few letters put together create really complex websites.

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your life here at BVHS. What activities or clubs are you involved in? What year are you in school? What is your favorite class and/or teacher so far this year? What are you looking forward to this school year? Include some original photos from your phone if you can.

Currently I'm a freshman at BVHS. In the fall I participated in cross country and made the varsity team. At regionals, we clenched third place taking us to state! So far I'm really liking biology, mostly because I can sleep the whole time. Other classes that I don't like include: honors geometry (I have to teach myself the information), design fundamentals (I just didn't like it), and gym (well, I have a really rude teacher. hint: it starts with a Mc and ends with a Nerlin).

Always be the bigger person
Beer before liquor, get sick quicker. Liquor before beer, you're in the clear.
Change isn't always bad
Don't change for others
Eye checks should be a yearly thing
Forgive and forget
Give good advice
Hippos will attack
I think you should get a reality check
Just because you heard it, doesn't mean it's true
Kindness should be everywhere
Loudness is annoying
Manners are important
Never hurt people
Only you can make your choices
Pronounce your words
Question your choices
Read
Smile, you never know who's watching
Think before you act
Unite with old friends
Voices in your head is schizophrenia
Words speak louder actions
Xylophones aren't toys, they will break
Your more important than you think
Zoo's are for animals not people

What are your thoughts on this class so far? Easy? Hard? Informative? Frustrating? What have you learned so far? What do you want to learn? Explain yourself.

So far this class has been pretty easy.  I think once we start getting into more-depth on code academy then it will be a frustrating. I'm glad that when I finish this class I won't have to take another computer class again, so that's definitely a plus.  So far I have only learned to code on how to insert a picture or text then hyperlink it.  I would like to learn how to create shapes.

Tell me about your weekend. What did you do? Upload a photo to your Google Drive and then insert the photo (or photos!) to your blog post to show me what all you did.

This weekend started on Friday for me. I had a soccer game game at 8, but because it's all the way out in Gardner, I didn't get home till 10:30.  I then got home home and watched ten minutes of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy before falling asleep.  On Saturday, I went to candidate interview, where I have to sit in a room full of boy and they get to ask me weird questions (its not very interesting). Then I went home and watched the Patriots beat the Ravens with my friend.  My mom was mad because me and my sister both like the Patriots and she likes the jets, who suck.   Later that night I went to a surprise birthday party for my friend Riley, but it wasn't much of a surprise because she knew about the party. Then I didn't do much Sunday.

Thursday, January 8

Read this small newspaper clipping and then write a blog post about it. What are your thoughts? How does it make you feel? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain yourself.

John Tapene explains that kids can't wait around for things to happen to them, instead, they should be out mowing lawns, helping people, and getting a job. He makes a good point when he says: go make something of your self, but the bottom line is that we're still teenagers. Teenagers now a days have stress from school, sports, and homework. It was a different time when he was in high school so he can't make a legitimate judgement call.  Its not his place to be deciding what teenagers should and shouldn't be doing with their time. So yes, once and a while it would be now to have somewhere to relax instead always doing something for their community. If the community could do something for us, that would be nice too.
