final project

For my emerging technologies class we have to do a project over our family.  Some of the tools I used to demonstrate how my family grew are piktochart, prezi, family echo, and email.

Blog Post of the Day:
What are you doing for Thanksgiving? Do you have any traditions? Go in to detail about your plans for the 5 day weekend.

For thanksgiving all of my family is coming into town, and unfortunately staying at our house.  We are also celebrating a lot of birthdays too.  My aunt and my sister share a birthday on the 26th, but because it's my sisters 18th birthday we're mainly celebrating hers.  It's also my dad's birthday on the 28th so I'll probably go black Friday shopping with my sister like last year.  At the actual dinner there will be probably be fighting because that's what my family does.  Also a huge secret might come out because what's a holiday without a secret.  I can't for the turkey and the pecan pie.

Review your rubric from yesterday. Look over the comments and grade.

My stop motion video got a score of 64/65, the only point I missed was lighting and focus.  One way I could have gotten that point was having my pictures where there was better lighting. To make the lighting better I could have used a flash but that made the pictures look funky.  I should of just used and overhead lamp.  The pictures were also a little bit blurry, but that was just the quality of the camera.

Tell me about your weekend.

I had a very uneventful weekend. I honestly didn't do anything. On Saturday I slept in till 9:00.  Yes, 9:00 is sleeping in for me.  Then I basically just sat around and watched cold case.  Then on Sunday I thought I should mix things up a little so I woke up at 9:00 and watch girl code and football all while doing my homework.

Tell me about your experience with taking your stop-motion photos. What problems did you run in to? What did you find difficult about the process? What would you go back and change about HOW you took the photos? Explain yourself.

For my stop-motion photo project, I used skittles to tell the story.  I set up the camera on a tripod looking down at the skittles on a piece of construction paper on my dinner table.  Some problems that I encountered were that my cat jumped up on the table and screwed it up twice.  Something I would change is doing it in my basement so nothing can mess it up.

what is idea? how is it creative? how?

I will be using a number of materials for my stop motion animation.  I'm using skittles and moving them around until they form a day of the dead skull and then it will turn into peices of paper.  it'll look super intricate and cool.

What is stop motion animation? If you don't know, look it up! Explain.

Stop animation is an animation technique where an object is moved in small increments to make it seem like it's moving by itself. Some examples are The Nightmare Before Christmas, King Kong, and Gumby.  The  technique can be used with figurines and they can can move them move them and take photos.  Then they string all of the photos make them move to tell a story.

Tell me about your idea for your 5 frame story board. What is the plot? How do you plan to make the story creative? Who's the main character? What is the beginning, middle and end? Tell me about your plan of attack.

In the beginning I'll be walking into school, then I'll go to my locker, walk down the hall, had into the locker room, and finally go into the gym.  The plot is me going to first hour. I, Cameron Nadler, am the main character.

Yesterday you edited and uploaded photos to your blog. Tell me more about your photos. HOW did you edit them? Why did you choose the photos that you did? Explain your assignment.

Yesterday I edited photos.  I chose the photos based on how much I thought they could be edited most.  For a lot of the photos I used the tool, burn, on the background.  This made them darker but still bring the color out.  The assignment was to take a total of ten pictures throughout the school at different angle then edit five of them

What did you do this weekend!

On Friday I got to skip school and go to Lawrence to run in STATE!  This was my best race so far and I broke 17 minutes getting 16:56.  Since Halloween was on Friday I went to a party for a little bit then went to play in my soccer game.  On Saturday I had another soccer game because we were in a tournament.  On Sunday I went to the Chiefs Game (we won).  After the game I headed over to Tanners for my soccer dinner, but my coach couldn't come because his wife went into labor.

What do you know about photography and/or photo editing? Do you take photos? How do you take photos? Do you edit photos before posting them on social media? How do you edit them? Explain any background or knowledge you have about photography and photo editing. Do you like it? Do you have any interest?

When I think of editing photos, I mainly think of the editing magazines do where they make people look skinnier or prettier.  Or another way people edit photos they can enhance the picture so it looks brighter.  Also people can put filters on so it can change the photo to black and white and stuff like that.  I mainly don't edit my photos, when i post them on instagram or twitter.  I don't like editing my photos.

Tell me about your weekend. Share pics!

On Friday night I was planning on going to part of the football game but instead went my cross country sleepover.  When I was there I ate so much food. There was cookies, trail mix, Pirate's Booty, Spooey (pretzels dipped in icing) , and many more fattening foods.  I fell asleep watching The Amazing Spider-Man 2, then woke up remembering I still had practice that day.  So I went on my run.  I went home after that and it felt like I slept forever. On Sunday, I had a soccer game and I scored a goal!!!  We ended up tying the game at 2-2, but I still enjoyed scoring.

Below is a letter written to the editor who wrote the article 'Enforcement of dress code creates negative effect' that your blogged about last week. Most of you wrote on your blog that you agreed with the writer. What are your thoughts after reading the letter below and seeing a different perspective. Are they the same? Are the different? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain yourself.

I disagree with this letter addressing the article, 'Enforcement of dress code creates negative effect.' Although, reading this made me think twice about Riley Miller's accusations that the teachers and administrators were at fault for not letting students wear what they want.  Teachers and administers want us to look professional and hold us up to high standard.  But, that's what they want, not us, the students.

Some of the classes we take in school are useless.  When in life am I going to need to know how to find the orthocenter of a triangle.  Its skills like that that annoy me  because you only will need to know that for a few jobs.  If I'm not interested in a job where I'll need that skill, then this is just wasted time.  They should have classes that teach survival skills if you're ever put in a bad situation.  Another possible class teaches sign language. With the survival class you can take field trips, and  learn first aid.  And for sign language you can learn with actual people that rely on it.

The following article was in the September issue of The Tiger Print. Read the article (even if you already have) and respond to it below. What do you think? Do you agree? Disagree? Consider all perspectives of the article while you respond.

I definitely agree with Riley Miller's article.  Why should girls be punished for wearing what they want as long as it totally doesn't cross the line.  She writes that she was "unfortunately blessed with extremely long, lank limbs."  I have the exact same issue why should I have to wear longer shorts if someone the exact same size as me just with shorter legs gets to wear short-shorts.  Also, I think boys don't really care how short our shorts are, its just more for them to see (wow my thigh, that's intriguing).  Teachers and administrators shouldn't enforce this thumb-rule, because I'm sure when they were in high school they wore what everybody else was wearing, what was in at the time.  Girls are just wearing these shorts because that's whats in right now.  Give it a few years it might go away, but for the time being we shouldn't be punished.

Tell me about your weekend! If you don't have anything fun to share, tell me about the city you live in. What do you love about Kansas City? Do you have a favorite place in the city? Favorite team? :) Favorite event? Explain.

I didn't have a very eventful weekend in Leawood, KS.  Here in JoCo there aren't a lot of things going on, it's a little boring.  I guess it's a good place to grow up in, but nothing important ever happens.  At least we have a football, baseball, and soccer team.  This year the Royals are doing a really good job and they made it to the playoffs.  Yesterday they beat the Los Angeles in game three of five games. So now they're moving from the ALDS to the ADCS!

Tell me about your Homecoming weekend! If you didn't participate in the Homecoming festivities, what did you do? Share pics!

On Saturday morning I woke up at 4:45 and got ready for my cross country meet.  Once I got to the school at 5:45, boys and girls JV and Varsity headed to Rim Rock in Lawrence.  I didn't run till 12:30 so I mostly just cheered my team on and sat in our tent.  During my race, I got a PR which means I got a personal record.  On the way home I slept the whole time.  After that I was rushing every where!  I had my hair and makeup done at Beauty Brands and I got my dress from Urban Outfitters.  I went to Bravo for dinner with my very annoying date and some friends. Then I was off to the dance.

What is an infographic? If you don't know, go look it up. Read about it and then in your own words tell me what an infographic is. What do infographics do? How do they work? What makes a really good infographic?

Find an example of a really cool infographic on the web and place it on your blog.

A infographic is a visual that you can quickly glance at and read the information.  It can be a graph, data table, any kind of chart, or an architectural design.  What makes a good inforgraphic is that it's easy to read and efficient.

Imagine Mr. Bacon has asked you to suggest one way of improving Blue Valley High School to make it a better place for students. Think about the changes that are needed at your school. Pick one change you feel would really make a difference and explain what it is and why you'd make the change.

I think that an improvement to our school would be to have the lunchroom snack bar open after school.  There have been countless number of times where my friends and I have been hungry after school, but we don't carry around singles and quarters for the vending machine.  That's why the lunch line is so successful, because they keep us on tab.  If they kept it open that would make things a lot easier.

What are your favorite apps on your phone or tablet? Why?

Currently there is a tie for what my favorite app on is; it's between Twitter and Spider Solitaire.  I like twitter because and can tweet about people and they don't even know.  Also I can tweet something really stupid and get a bunch of favorites, where if I had said it pout loud people would have just made fun of me. For example, I tweeted "Still on iOS 6" and got a lot of favorites, but when I said it to my friend Sydnei, she just laughed in my face.  I like Spider Solitaire too because, its like regular solitaire but on steroids. It's just great.

What is email? When do you use email in your own personal life? List reasons and ways that people use email. What do you know about "email etiquette"?

Email is a technological updated way of sending a letter. It was created in 1993 as an easy way of sending mail.  Now people can send it through computers, phones, and tablets.  I think email etiquette the correct way of writing an email is stating who you are, then what your problem or topic is, then give the information is, and finally a closing.

So far, I've liked what we've been doing in emerging technologies.  I think all of the tools we've used are going to be very helpful.  I especially like google drive; I used it last year so I know it's reliable and easy.  I really like how I can access it from and computer or my phone and still have all of my work.  In the past I would have to email it to myself which was hassle. I will continue using it throughout high school and maybe into college.

Do you enjoy writing? When do you enjoy it? What kind of writing do you enjoy? Why do you think the ability to write is so important no matter what kind of writing it is? Give an example that you enjoyed writing or hated writing. Why?

I sometimes enjoy writing, but only if it's the topic is something I'm interested in.  I think when I write an essay for school its fine when I enjoy the topic or can relate to the story.  Although, there have been times where I haven't enjoyed writing essays.  When we have to write an essay with limited time and over a boring topic, I don't like that.  I think it's important to write because with writing you can express more of your ideas and feelings.  Where with just saying it you tend to hold back more.  Also, people tend to judge more when your just saying it.

Reflect on this quote. Give an example of a time in your life that this might have been the case.

I think the quote, "By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail," by Benjamin Franklin, means that if you don't even try to help yourself the first time, then you won't ever try because your just getting yourself into bad habits.  When I was in sixth grade I was really good about studying; then when I got to seventh grade I just blew off studying because I thought I could do without it.  I did fine on the first test, so I kept not studying.  I kept this going for a while, then I got to eighth grade and was caught in this bad habit of not studying and it was really hard to break it.

What is the importance of research? Why do you need to know how to research? What have you learned in high school about researching topics and finding quality resources? Have you had a helpful teacher that has taught you to research? Explain.

Research is important because it backs stuff up.  If I were to say that cold water boils just as fast or faster than warm water you would think I'm lying.  Although if i had research from quality resources and told you that and explained it it wouldn't be bad. Research is important when you say something that might sound, but is true, people might make fun of you for it but then you throw all this research in their face and are like "ha told you so!" Because lets be  real here, Saying "I told you so" is probably the best feeling in the world.  There can be consequences though; say you use Wikipedia and it gives you the wrong answer, the person you're fighting with comes back with the right answer from a good website and you're just left there looking stupid.  My middle school librarian, Mrs. Nocita did a very good job of teaching how to research using key terms and databases. So if you want to say "I told you so" research on quality websites.

If I were to complain about kids these days it would probably be about their reliance on technology. I thought my generation was bad, but they're so far past the line they can't find their way back. Everybody is fat and has NO social skills.  What used to be sports out on a field or court with a ball is now replaced with a game controller.  First off, all the people are wicked neurotic and way too honest; they really can't control themselves.
